Flu information 2019-20

Adult and Children's Nasal Vaccination information

In order to ensure that patients have the most effective vaccine there will be two vaccines offered to patients again this year:

Adjuvanted Trivalent inactivated vaccine - patients who are 65 years old and over

Quadrivalent Inactivated vaccine - patients who are 64 years old and under and at risk 

The delivery dates vary by supplier but we have had confirmation that the '65 years and over' vaccine will be delivered in September.  Whereas the '64 years and under *at risk' vaccines are due in October/November.

The first of a series of Flu clinics are being held at Caste Medical Group for patients aged 65 years old and over on:

  • Saturday 21st September
  • Saturday 5th October

The *at risk groups include:

  • Patients aged 65 years and above
  • Are pregnant
  • Are living in a residential home or care facility
  • Patients who are registered carers eg for family members
  • Have a Long Term chronic medical condition - respiratory diseases, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, neurological conditions, diabetes, spleen problems, weakened immune system

Children's Nasal Vaccination

In the Autumn/Winter of 2019/20 the vaccine will be free on the NHS for eligible children:

  • *Children born between 1st September 2015 and 31st August 2017 inclusive (aged 2 or 3 on 31st August 2019)
  • All primary school children - nasal vaccine given in the school setting 
  • Children aged 2 to 7 years with a long-term health condition

* A text message will be sent to the parent/carer of these children to invite them make ab appointment to receive the vaccine.  The nasal vaccines are due to arrive at Castle Medical Group in the middle of October.
